Theory Hub UK Theory Test

Your pupil is driving in the left-hand lane of a three-lane dual carriageway. As they approach a junction, they see this sign on a gantry. What should they do if they want to go straight ahead?

Why this is the answer

This sign tells your pupil that all lanes continue through the junction. Traffic leaving at the junction does so by using a slip road. There will normally be countdown markers before the slip road.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Move across to the middle lane, as the left-hand lane leaves at the junction — Moving across assumes the left-hand lane leaves, which this sign does not say.
C
Move across to the right-hand lane, as this is the only one that goes ahead at the junction — The right-hand lane is not the only one going ahead.
D
Straddle both the left-hand and middle lanes, as they're not sure which lane to use — Straddling two lanes blocks both and is never the answer to uncertainty.
