What this topic tests
Paperwork: licence, insurance, MOT, vehicle tax and the registration certificate. These questions are pure recall, which makes them the cheapest marks on the paper — there is no judgement to get wrong, only a figure or a name to know.
- An MOT lasts one year, and a car needs its first at three years old.
- Insurance is what you must have before you can tax the vehicle; third party is the legal minimum.
- The registered keeper is responsible for the tax and for keeping the registration certificate up to date.
- Seven days to produce documents at a police station if you do not have them with you.
- Six penalty points within two years of passing means the licence is revoked and both tests have to be taken again.
The mark people lose: Mixing up the two agencies. DVSA sets and runs the tests; DVLA holds the licences and the vehicle register. A question that names the wrong one is a distractor.
