How long is a compulsory basic training (CBT) certificate valid?
- A One year
- B 2 years
- C 3 years
- D 4 years
Why this is the answer
All new learner motorcycle and moped riders must complete a CBT course before riding on the road. This can only be given by an approved training body (ATB). If you do not pass your practical test within 2 years, you'll need to successfully complete CBT again, before you continue riding on the road.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- One year — A year would mean repeating the training before most riders have reached their test.
- C
- 3 years — Three years is the gap between first registration and first MOT, not the life of a CBT.
- D
- 4 years — Four years is longer than any CBT certificate lasts.

Where this question comes from
The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites.
