Theory Hub UK Theory Test

For how long does a driving test pass certificate remain valid?

Why this is the answer

When a candidate passes a practical driving test, their full licence is normally issued directly by the licensing authority. However, if this does not happen, successful candidates should apply for a full licence as soon as possible. The driving test pass certificate is valid for 2 years; if a full licence is not applied for within that time, the driver will need to retake their test.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
1 year — A year is shorter than the certificate's life.
C
3 years — Three years is longer than it lasts.
D
10 years — Ten years is the life of a photocard, not of a pass certificate.

Where this question comes from

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites. Everything else on this page is written by Theory Hub: the explanation of why each wrong answer is wrong, the topic guide and the revision notes.
