You're waiting at a level crossing. What must you do if a train has passed but the lights keep flashing?
- A Carry on waiting
- B Phone the signal operator
- C Continue if it looks safe
- D Park and investigate
Why this is the answer
If the lights at a level crossing continue to flash after a train has passed, wait, as there might be another train coming. Time seems to pass slowly when you're held up in a queue. Be patient; there's a good safety reason why the barriers have remained down and the lights continue to flash.
Why the other answers don't fit
- B
- Phone the signal operator — Phoning comes into it only if the lights fail with no train in sight for a long time.
- C
- Continue if it looks safe — Lights still flashing mean another train is coming, whatever it looks like.
- D
- Park and investigate — Investigating means walking near a line that is still live.
