Theory Hub UK Theory Test

Why should you teach your pupils to make sure that their indicators cancel after turning?

Why this is the answer

If your pupils' indicators do not turn off automatically, they must cancel them. This might happen after a slight deviation, where the movement of the steering wheel has not been enough to activate the auto-cancel mechanism. A signal that continues to show after it should have cancelled can mislead other road users.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
To avoid flattening the battery — Indicators draw almost nothing, and the battery is not what a forgotten signal costs.
C
To avoid dazzling other road users — An indicator is not bright enough to dazzle anyone.
D
To avoid damage to the indicator relay — The relay is built to flash for as long as it is asked to.
