What's the first thing you must do if you have a collision while you're driving your car?
- A Stop only if someone waves at you
- B Call the emergency services
- C Stop at the scene of the incident
- D Call your insurance company
Why this is the answer
If you're in a collision that causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, by law you must stop. Give your name, the vehicle owner’s name and address, and the vehicle’s registration number to anyone who has reasonable grounds for requesting them.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- Stop only if someone waves at you — The duty to stop does not depend on anybody asking you to.
- B
- Call the emergency services — Often necessary, but the legal requirement begins with stopping.
- D
- Call your insurance company — That comes a good deal later.
