Theory Hub UK Theory Test

A casualty is not breathing normally and needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). At what rate should you press down and release on the centre of their chest?

Why this is the answer

If a casualty is not breathing normally, CPR may be needed to maintain circulation. Place 2 hands on the centre of the chest and press down hard and fast – around 5 to 6 centimetres and about twice a second.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
10 times per minute — Nowhere near enough to keep any blood moving.
C
60 times per minute — Half the rate that is needed.
D
240 times per minute — Far too fast for the chest to recoil between compressions.
