Theory Hub UK Theory Test

What do these lines along the centre of the road mean?

Why this is the answer

Long white lines with short gaps mean there's a hazard ahead. Often a warning sign will show you the nature of the hazard. Do not cross the line unless you can see the road is clear well ahead and you wish to overtake or turn off.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
They're lane markings — Lane markings are shorter and more evenly spaced.
C
No stopping on the carriageway — Stopping is controlled by kerb markings and signs.
D
No overtaking — No overtaking is shown by solid white lines, not by this pattern.
