Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You're driving in fog. Why should you keep well back from the vehicle in front?

Why this is the answer

If you’re following another road user in fog, stay well back. The driver in front will not be able to see hazards until they’re close and might need to brake suddenly. Also, the road surface is likely to be wet and could be slippery.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
In case it changes direction suddenly — A sudden change of direction is a risk in any weather. Fog makes stopping the problem.
B
In case its fog lights dazzle you — Dazzle is a reason to look away from the lights, not the reason for the gap.
D
In case its brake lights dazzle you — Brake lights tell you it is slowing. That is information, not a hazard.
