Theory Hub UK Theory Test

Your car's ignition warning light comes on during a lesson. What fault does this indicate?

Why this is the answer

The ignition warning light should go out once the engine has started. If it comes on during normal driving, this would indicate a fault with the charging system. Have it checked.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
The engine is overheating — Overheating has its own temperature gauge and warning.
B
The battery needs charging — A flat battery shows as poor starting; this light points at the charging system.
D
The oil level may be low — Low oil has its own warning light.
