Theory Hub UK Theory Test

Where should your pupils position their car when they're driving in traffic lanes?

Why this is the answer

When driving in traffic, your pupils should keep within their lane. Driving in the centre of their lane makes sure there's as much space as possible between them and the traffic on either side. Drivers should always follow the lane markings, which are there for two reasons: they make the best possible use of road space and they guide the traffic.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Well to the left of the lane — Hugging the left of the lane puts them in the gutter and invites others to squeeze past.
B
Well to the right of the lane — Sitting to the right brings them close to the next lane for no gain.
D
Anywhere within the lane — Anywhere is not a position; a lane has a centre and that is where a car belongs.
