You've parked your vehicle on level ground to deliver a load of building materials. What should you do before using the vehicle-mounted crane?
- A Switch the engine off
- B Turn the steering wheels to the left
- C Lower the stabilising legs
- D Set out warning cones
Why this is the answer
Before using the crane, it's vital to make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground and the stabilising legs are lowered. This will reduce the risk of the load becoming unstable during lifting. Also check for any overhead cables that may obstruct the crane.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- Switch the engine off — The engine usually drives the crane, so switching it off stops the crane.
- B
- Turn the steering wheels to the left — Where the front wheels point does not steady a crane.
- D
- Set out warning cones — Cones warn other people and hold nothing up.
