What will reduce fuel consumption?

Why this is the answer

Harsh braking, frequent gear changes and harsh acceleration increase fuel consumption. A car uses less fuel when travelling at a constant low speed in an appropriate high gear. You need to look well ahead so you’re able to anticipate hazards early. Easing off the accelerator and timing your approach at junctions, for example, can reduce the fuel consumption of your vehicle.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Accelerating rapidly — Rapid acceleration is where most of the fuel goes.
C
Late and heavy braking — Braking hard throws away speed you paid fuel for.
D
Staying in lower gears — Low gears mean high revs and high consumption.
