Theory Hub UK Theory Test

What should the candidate do when the examiner gives the signal for an emergency stop?

Why this is the answer

During an emergency stop exercise, the examiner will check that the road is clear behind before they give the signal to stop. At the signal, the candidate should keep full control of the vehicle while stopping it as quickly and safely as possible.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Check the mirrors — Checking the mirrors before an emergency stop wastes the moment the exercise is testing.
C
Depress the clutch — The clutch goes down late, as the car is about to stop.
D
Steer to the left — Steering left takes the car towards the kerb and whatever is on it.
