Theory Hub UK Theory Test

What's the minimum distance from which an approved driving instructor (ADI) must be able to read a number plate?

Why this is the answer

Trainee driving instructors will have their eyesight tested at the start of their Part 2 examination. A number plate, where the letters and figures are 79 mm tall and 50 mm wide, must be read at a minimum distance of 27 metres. If a trainee driving instructor cannot pass this test, their Part 2 examination will go no further. This will not, however, affect their licence to drive, as the ADI eyesight test standard exceeds the legal eyesight requirement.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
20.5 metres — 20.5 metres is the standard for an ordinary driving test, not for an instructor.
C
30.5 metres — 30.5 metres is further than the instructor standard requires.
D
36 metres — 36 metres is further still.
