Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You find that your eyesight has become very poor. Who must you inform if your optician says they cannot help you?

Why this is the answer

One condition of holding a driving licence is that you must inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), or the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Northern Ireland, if your health deteriorates in any way that affects your ability to drive. This also applies if your eyesight deteriorates to the point that you can no longer meet the driver's eyesight requirements.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Your doctor — Your doctor may already know; it is the licensing record that must be corrected.
C
The police — The police do not hold the licensing record.
D
An ophthalmologist — A specialist may be able to help, and the duty to notify stands either way.

Where this question comes from

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites. Everything else on this page is written by Theory Hub: the explanation of why each wrong answer is wrong, the topic guide and the revision notes.
