Theory Hub UK Theory Test

For additional practice, your pupil's partner wishes to accompany your pupil while they drive. What rules will apply?

Why this is the answer

Anyone who accompanies a learner car driver must hold a full licence (issued in the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein) for the category of vehicle being driven, and they must have held it for at least 3 years. They must also be at least 21 years old. This applies even if they're just helping a friend and no money is exchanged.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
They must have held a full licence for the category of vehicle being driven for at least 3 years and they must be at least 25 years old — The age is 21, not 25.
C
They must have held a full licence for the category of vehicle being driven for at least 4 years and they must be at least 21 years old — The licence period is three years, not four.
D
They must have held a full licence for the category of vehicle being driven for at least 4 years and they must be at least 25 years old — Both figures are wrong — three years and 21 years old.

Where this question comes from

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites. Everything else on this page is written by Theory Hub: the explanation of why each wrong answer is wrong, the topic guide and the revision notes.
