A pupil with a physical disability is concerned that the examiner will not understand their special needs. What should you tell them?
- A They'll have to be much better than a non-disabled driver
- B All examiners are trained to assess the driving of candidates with special needs
- C The examiner will have more time to study their faults
- D They'll be tested to a lower standard than a non-disabled driver
Why this is the answer
All driving examiners are trained to assess candidates who have additional needs. The physical disability should be declared when the test is applied for. This is to allow extra time for the • examiner to discuss and understand how the disability affects the candidate's ability to control the vehicle • subsequent paperwork. The driving test itself will be of the same duration and assessed to the same uniform standard as all regular practical driving tests.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- They'll have to be much better than a non-disabled driver — The standard is the same for everyone, not higher for a disabled candidate.
- C
- The examiner will have more time to study their faults — The test is not longer, and faults are not studied for longer.
- D
- They'll be tested to a lower standard than a non-disabled driver — Nor is the standard lower; it is the same test.
