What does this motorway sign mean?
- A Temporary minimum speed 50 mph
- B No services for 50 miles
- C Obstruction 50 metres (164 feet) ahead
- D Temporary maximum speed 50 mph
Why this is the answer
Look out for signs above your lane or on the central reservation. These will give you important information or warnings about the road ahead. To allow for the high speed of motorway traffic, these signs may light up some distance from any hazard. Do not ignore the signs just because the road looks clear to you.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- Temporary minimum speed 50 mph — Minimum limits are blue, and rare on a motorway gantry.
- B
- No services for 50 miles — Service distances are shown on blue rectangles.
- C
- Obstruction 50 metres (164 feet) ahead — The number here is a speed, not a distance.
