Theory Hub UK Theory Test

At an incident, a casualty is not breathing. What should you do while helping them to start breathing again?

Why this is the answer

It’s important to make sure that the airway is open before you start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). To open the casualty’s airway, place your fingers under their chin and lift it forward.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Put their arms across their chest — That gets in the way of the compressions you are about to give.
B
Shake them firmly — Shaking can worsen a spinal injury, and it will not restart breathing.
C
Roll them onto their side — The recovery position is for somebody who is breathing.
