Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You're teaching a student. You have just discussed how they will overtake the cyclist ahead. The cyclist signals that they're going to turn right. What should your student do?

Why this is the answer

Your student should keep well back and allow the cyclist room to take up the correct position for the turn. They should not get too close behind or try to squeeze past.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Continue to overtake as discussed — A plan made before the signal is a plan made without the facts.
B
Overtake the cyclist before they reach the junction — Overtaking then having them turn across you is the collision the signal warned of.
D
Squeeze past the cyclist on the left-hand side — Squeezing past on the left takes the car to the side the cyclist is about to leave.

Where this question comes from

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites.
