Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You're giving a lesson when an ambulance showing a flashing blue beacon comes up behind your learner's car. What should you instruct your learner to do?

Why this is the answer

When an emergency vehicle is behind with its blue lights flashing, you need to help your learner to remain calm and look ahead for a safe place to move over to let it pass. If they're waiting at red traffic lights, do not let them attempt to clear the way by driving past the red light; this is both dangerous and a traffic offence.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Accelerate hard to avoid slowing it down — Accelerating hard keeps a learner in front of it at a speed they cannot control.
C
Maintain their speed and course — Holding speed and course leaves the ambulance with nowhere to go.
D
Brake immediately and stop in the road — Braking to a stop in the road creates a new obstruction for it.
