Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You're driving on a motorway. What must you do if you see this signal above every lane?

Why this is the answer

Red flashing lights and a red 'X' above every lane means the road is closed and you must not go on any further. Stop and wait. Do not • change lanes • continue • stop on the hard shoulder (unless in an emergency).

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Stop on the hard shoulder — The hard shoulder is for emergencies, and the signal is not telling you to break down.
B
Slow down and watch for further signals — A red cross over every lane is not an advisory to carry on slowly.
C
Leave at the next exit — You cannot reach the next exit through a carriageway that is closed.

Where this question comes from

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites.
