Theory Hub UK Theory Test

What must you do when you hitch an unbraked trailer to a towing vehicle?

Why this is the answer

If a tow hitch fails, the trailer must stay connected to the towing vehicle. This is achieved by using a secondary coupling device, such as a safety chain.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
Grease the tow ball and hitch — Grease helps the hitch work smoothly and secures nothing.
C
Switch off the car's reversing sensor — A reversing sensor is a convenience with no bearing on the coupling.
D
Fit a breakaway cable — A breakaway cable applies the trailer's brakes, and an unbraked trailer has none.
