Theory Hub UK Theory Test

A 6-year-old child, less than 1.35 metres tall, is going to travel in your car. Can they be restrained using an adult seat belt?

Why this is the answer

Children aged from 3 to 12 years who are up to 1.35 metres tall, must use a correct child restraint when travelling in the back seat of a car where seat belts are fitted. However, where 2 occupied child restrains prevent a third from being fitted, the child must wear an adult seat belt.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Yes, they can travel in any free passenger seat — Any free seat is too loose; the exception is narrow and applies to the back.
C
No, they can never travel without being in an appropriate child seat — Never is too absolute; the law allows for the case where no third seat will fit.
D
No, if a child restraint is not available it's safer to leave them unsecured — Unsecured is never safer, and it is an offence.
