Theory Hub UK Theory Test

You're in the left-hand lane at traffic lights, waiting to turn left. Which signal means you must wait?

Why this is the answer

At some junctions, there may be separate signals for different lanes. These are called ‘filter’ lights. They’re designed to help traffic flow at major junctions. Make sure that you’re in the correct lane and proceed if the way is clear and the green light shows for your lane.

Why the other answers don't fit

B
— The green light is showing, so traffic may go. Green is never the signal that tells you to wait.
C
— Ahead is held on red, but the green arrow is lit for the left turn — which is the turn you want.
D
— Both the green light and the green left arrow are lit, so your turn is open.
