You're at the scene of an incident. What would suggest someone is suffering from shock?
- A A flushed complexion
- B Being alert
- C Rapid shallow breathing
- D Being very hungry
Why this is the answer
The effects of shock may not be immediately obvious. Try to recognise the warning signs early; prompt treatment can help to deal with it. Symptoms include a rapid pulse, pale skin, sweating and rapid shallow breathing.
Why the other answers don't fit
- A
- A flushed complexion — Shock drains the colour out of someone; a flushed face suggests something else.
- B
- Being alert — Alertness is a sign of recovery, not of shock.
- D
- Being very hungry — Hunger is not a symptom, and food would delay treatment anyway.
