Theory Hub UK Theory Test

How can you help to protect the environment?

Why this is the answer

By using a bypass, rather than joining the stop/start traffic in a town centre, you're less likely to be held up and can travel at a constant speed. Keeping to a constant speed will reduce the amount of pollution produced by your vehicle.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
By driving faster to reduce travelling time — Faster driving burns more fuel for the same distance.
C
By filling your fuel tank with red diesel fuel — Red diesel on the road is an offence, and it is no cleaner.
D
By leaving your engine running in traffic jams — An idling engine in a jam burns fuel to move nobody anywhere.

The question, its options and the explanation are reproduced word for word from the DVSA revision question bank under licence. The licence requires them to appear unaltered, so we cannot reword them and neither can anyone else — that is why you will meet the same wording on other sites. Everything else on this page is written by Theory Hub: the explanation of why each wrong answer is wrong, the topic guide and the revision notes.
