Theory Hub UK Theory Test

How can you avoid harsh braking?

Why this is the answer

Your first duty is to your paying customers, who want to reach their destination comfortably and safely. Harsh braking can cause your passengers to be thrown forward on the bus, so avoid this by looking and planning well ahead. Give yourself plenty of time to react to traffic situations.

Why the other answers don't fit

A
Pump the brakes when approaching a bus stop — Pumping the brakes at a stop is jerky, which is the very thing to avoid.
B
Use only the gears to slow down — Gears alone cannot stop a bus, and changing down late is harsh in itself.
C
Use the parking brake just before stopping — The parking brake applied while moving is abrupt and acts on one axle only.
