After riding through shallow flood water, you notice your motorcycle's brakes are not working properly. What would be the best way to dry them out?
- A Ride slowly, braking lightly
- B Ride quickly, braking harshly
- C Stop and dry them with a cloth
- D Stop and wait for a few minutes
Why this is the answer
You can help to dry out brakes by riding slowly and applying light pressure to the brake pedal/lever. Do not ride at normal speeds until they're working normally again.
Why the other answers don't fit
- B
- Ride quickly, braking harshly — Harsh braking on wet brakes that are not working is how you find out they are not working.
- C
- Stop and dry them with a cloth — You cannot reach the braking surfaces with a cloth, and the water is inside the assembly.
- D
- Stop and wait for a few minutes — Waiting does not dry them. Gentle use does, by warming them as you ride.
