← Rules for cyclists

Rule 64: No cycling on pavements

Legal requirement — says MUST Overview (rules 59 to 72)

You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement.

Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & R(S)A sect 129

Why the capitals matter. The Highway Code writes a rule in capitals — MUST or MUST NOT — when it is backed by law, so breaking it is a criminal offence. The rules that do not use capitals are advice.
